Five environmental groups have come together to support Democratic Senate nominee Martin Heinrich, reports Politico. The five — the League of Conservation Voters, Defenders of Wildlife, the Sierra Club, the National Wildlife Federation Action Fund and the Natural Resources Defense Council Action Fund — put out their first ad Tuesday, attacking Heinrich’s Republican opponent, Heather Wilson, for taking money from oil companies and lobbyists.
Wilson “has taken $600,000 from oil and gas companies,” the narrator says as the names of groups companies including Exxon Mobil, Chevron, Koch Industries and Halliburton appear on the screen. “Hundreds of thousands from lobbyists and corporate polluters. So when Heather Wilson votes against New Mexico families on clean air and clean drinking water, it makes you wonder, who’s Wilson with? Not us.”
In a press release, the Defenders of Wildlife Action Committee promises the ad is “just the first installment of an aggressive campaign by conservation groups to highlight Wilson’s ties to polluting special interests.” According to Politico, the group has reserved $1 million in airtime between June 16 and Aug. 4.
