Appearing on ABC’s This Week, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) called for Congressional action to preserve middle-class tax cuts — and to allow upper-income tax cuts to expire instead — as part of discussions on spending and the debt.
“I challenge the Speaker right now to bring middle-income tax cuts to the floor right now,” said Pelosi.
She further explained: “Bringing middle-income tax cuts to the floor right now, passing those, would help our economic recovery right now, and would be a clear signal that the upper-income tax cuts would expire, because middle-income tax cuts would not be held hostage.”
Such action, Pelosi said, would then bring people to the table to negotiate spending cuts to deal with the deficit.
