Gay donors, who are already big Democratic backers, were thrilled with President Obama’s changed views on gay marriage, reports the LA Times. As Andrew Tobias, DNC treasurer and a top bundler for Obama, put it to the Times: “Within minutes, people were calling with their credit cards. They’re thrilled.”
“I think for people who were holding back, who were disappointed in the president’s position, that this would remove a barrier,” said Obama fundraiser Jeff Soref. “There were people who thought this position on marriage equality was a litmus test and they were either holding back, or were very modest in their contributions.”
BuzzFeed reported Wednesday that the Obama campaign took in $1 million in the first 90 minutes after the announcement.
