The new Rasmussen poll of the Wisconsin Senate race gives former Gov. Tommy Thompson only a narrow lead over Democratic Rep. Tammy Baldwin.
The numbers: Thompson 48%, Baldwin 44%. This is in fact a big improvement for Baldwin from the previous Rasmussen poll in February, which had Thompson up 50%-36%.
Against the other Republicans tested in the poll, Baldwin led state House Speaker Jeff Fitzgerald and former Rep. Mark Neumann, both by a 48%-40% margin. In the February poll, Neumann led Baldwin by 46%-37%, and Fitzgerald had an edge of 41%-40%.
The survey of likely voters was conducted March 27, and has a ±4.5% margin of error.
The TPM Poll Average currently gives Thompson a lead of 48.0%-43.6%.
