Ilya Sheyman, a 25-year old community organizer and insurgent congressional candidate who had been backed by progressive activist groups, has conceded the Democratic primary to the establishment-backed business consultant Brad Schneider, TPM has confirmed.
With 98 percent of precincts reporting, Schneider has 47 percent of the vote, to Sheyman’s 39 percent, with two other candidates at 8 percent and 6 percent.
Assuming his totals hold, Schneider will face the Republican incumbent, freshman Rep. Bob Dold, in this swing district of the Chicago suburbs.
