In a new poll from Public Policy Polling (D) that will be released in full after 11 p.m. Eastern, former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum has taken the lead in Michigan back from former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney in the Michigan Republican primary. Santorum gets 38 percent in the firm’s two day tracking of the race with election day tomorrow, Romney 37. Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX) sees 14 percent and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich gets nine.

Santorum had lost the lead in most polling after a poor performance in the CNN Republican debate held last Wednesday, with Romney moving back to the front in his home state of Michigan. But Santorum has continued to campaign hard in the state, firing up the right wing on social issues, and is again turning the tide in his favor just as votes approach. PPP tweeted that their numbers just on Monday showed Santorum with 39 percent, Romney 34, Paul 15, and Gingrich ten.

With things so close in Michigan the election could become a turnout game, which could be why Santorum is pulling out all the stops, even sending out robocalls in an attempt to get Democratic voters to cross over and vote for him.

Full results of the PPP and another survey from in-state pollster Foster McCollum White & Associates along with Baydoun Consulting will be out later tonight.
