The new NBC/Marist Poll of Michigan gives Democratic Sen. Debbie Stabenow a hefty lead over Republican former Congressman Pete Hoekstra, who has become famous recently over his controversial ad.
The numbers: Stabenow 53%, Hoekstra 32%. The survey of registered voters was conducted from February 19-20 and has a ±1.8% margin of error.
Hoekstra’s recent ad starred an Asian-American actress speaking in broken English, as she rode her bicycle by the side of a rice paddy, to ‘thank’ Stabenow for spending and borrowing money from China. “Your economy get very weak,” the woman said in the ad. “Ours get very good. We take your jobs.”
The Hoekstra campaign also appears to have recently scrubbed that ad from its YouTube account, as well as his TV appearances defending the ad that they had previously posted.
The TPM Poll Average gives Stabenow a lead of 51.6%-35.2%.
