Barack Obama’s recent string of encouraging news continued today with the release of the latest Quinnipiac poll, which shows the president besting every potential Republican opponent in the vital swing state of Virginia.
The statewide survey of registered voters shows Obama outpolling Mitt Romney 47 percent to 43 percent. Obama also enjoys a considerable lead over Newt Gingrich — 51 percent to 37 percent — and smaller but clear leads over Rick Santorum and Ron Paul.
Obama won Virginia in the 2008 presidential election and the state remains an integral part of his path to re-election. The TPM Poll Average shows Obama with a comparable lead over Romney in Virginia with the president trending up since November.
