President Barack Obama’s re-election campaign is already making hay out of Mitt Romney’s second place finish in South Carolina.
Jim Messina, Obama’s campaign manager, disseminated a lengthy memo this morning highlighting polling numbers that purportedly place Romney in an “increasingly weak position among every category of voter critical for a Republican to win the general election.”
Employing some deft cherry-picking, Messina points to one poll that shows that Romney lost to Gingrich by 47 percentage points among South Carolina primary voters who hold a negative view of the former Massachusetts governor’s career at Bain Capital.
