Trump Distances Himself From Clinton With 8-Point Lead In Iowa Poll

Donald Trump leads Hillary Clinton by eight points in the latest poll of Iowa voters from Monmouth University, widening his slight 2-point lead there from July.

This new poll has moved Iowa from a tossup to favoring Trump on TPM’s Electoral Scoreboard.

Trump leads Clinton among likely Iowa voters, 45-37, with Libertarian Gary Johnson at 8 percent and Green Party candidate Jill Stein trailing at 2 percent.

When Monmouth last polled Iowa in July, Trump led Clinton by two points, 44-42, with Johnson at 6 percent and Stein at 1 percent.

The Monmouth University poll was conducted via live interview Sept. 12-14 among 404 likely Iowa voters, with a margin of error of plus or minus 4.9 percent.

TPM’s PollTracker Average in Iowa shows Trump leading Clinton, 44.4 to 37.8.
