COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) — Sen. Ted Cruz has locked up the support of 21 total Colorado delegates to the Republican National Convention, representing a majority of the delegates the state will send to Cleveland in July.

Slates loyal to Cruz won every assembly in Colorado’s seven congressional districts, which began April 2 and culminated Friday with 12 delegates selected. The Texas senator is well-positioned to pad his total Saturday, when 13 more delegates will be chosen at Colorado Republicans’ state convention.

Of Cruz’s delegates, only 17 were formally pledged to him, and in theory the other four could change their vote in Cleveland. But they were all included on the senator’s slates and are largely state party officials who said they were barred from signing a formal pledge for Cruz but have promised to back him in balloting at the convention.

The result shows how Cruz’s superior organization has helped him as he tries to catch up with front-runner Donald Trump. While Cruz’s campaign spent months recruiting slates of delegates and securing pledges, Trump only this week hired a Colorado state director. Two candidates Trump’s campaign told backers to support in one district were not even on the ballot.

The Trump campaign said it wasn’t worried and had always expected to fare poorly in Colorado because its assembly process is dominated by party insiders. “If we had a primary, yes, we would have done very well here,” said Trump senior adviser Alan Cobb.

Cruz also appeals to Colorado Republican activists who dominate party functions — a deeply conservative, religious crowd with a libertarian streak.

“Coloradans, naturally having that pioneer spirit, gravitate toward someone like Cruz,” said State Rep. Justin Everett, one of Cruz’s pledged delegates.

“Two candidates Trump’s campaign told backers to support in one district were not even on the ballot.”

Trump really IS a used-car salesman.

He just makes sh#t up as he goes.

  2. Yes…but. Cruz is still way behind Trump and Trump is set to clean up in NY ( where Cruz is polling last ) and other states.

Cruz’s organization appears to be on a par with Obama’s 2008 campaign operation.

But that’s the only way they’re similar.

Obama drew massive crowds with his effortless charisma and easy charm.

Cruz can’t even get his daughters to put up with him on stage.

  4. Read some Huffpo comments this AM, and it is pretty much delegate schmelegate and Party division for the Repubs. (and the usual deep hate)

Some of the sensible, for a wacko that is, types, say that the Party has to back their delegates choice no matter whether Trump has the lead but not quite the 1237 delegates that are required to cinch the nomination. Others say, and I love this part, that if the filthy establishment ‘steals’ Trump’s righteous path to the nomination that they will; A) sit out the election, B) vote 3rd Party, C) mixture of vote Sanders or Clinton-to teach the GOP what’s what, or D) write in their favorite loon and just accept losing so that the Party leaders will learn and be forced to nominate the ultimate conservative in 2020 (total awesome sauce there).

Cruz is despised by all it seems but he keeps gaining with delegates, so something fishy is afoot?

The Huffpo style is the DailyKos style and they bicker about their idea of how things should go but they dig in re: Hillary. These are the longshot sites that just aren’t having anything to do with the actual leading candidates.

If you want pure bias, blog at the above ; )
