House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) charged on Tuesday that President Donald Trump is “goading” Democrats to impeach him in an effort to rally his base.

Pelosi brought up the subject of impeachment at an “Inside Congress” event hosted by Cornell University, according to CNBC.

“Trump is goading us to impeach him,” the speaker declared.

The President “knows it would be very divisive in the country, but he doesn’t really care,” Pelosi continued. “He just wants to solidify his base.”

While several Democrats, including 2020 candidate Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), have called for impeachment proceedings following the release of special counsel Robert Mueller’s report, Pelosi has stood by her position that trying to impeach Trump would be “wasting” Democrats’ time without Republican support in the Senate.
