SYDNEY (AP) — The male co-host of an Australian TV program is finally getting some attention for his fashion sense. And that’s his point.

Karl Stefanovic wore the same blue suit every day for a year on Channel Nine’s “Today” program. And no one noticed until he went public with his hidden-in-plain-sight experiment.

He told Australia’s Fairfax Media that while no one asked about his suit, people regularly commented about and criticized the outfits worn by co-host Lisa Wilkinson.

Stefanovic says, “I’m judged on my interviews, my appalling sense of humor – on how I do my job, basically. Whereas women are quite often judged on what they’re wearing or how their hair is.”

The Age newspaper says he’s still wearing the same blue suit, and only Wilkinson and another “Today” colleague knew about his experiment.

“They often remark that it’s getting a bit stinky,” he said in the paper’s weekend edition. “I’m hoping to get it into the dry cleaners at the end of the year.”

  1. Maybe if women would stop showing cleavage and wearing skirts up to their asses like on Fox… they would be taken seriously. No one 's going to take a woman seriously while her chest is half exposed.

I must applaud the Discovery ID channel where many female expert’s don’t even seem to have combed their hair before going on camera.

  3. I like his point. I also wonder how it would go if he tried to wear anything other than a suit? Women can and do have a broad variety of clothes they can wear and come under heat if the fashion is poor, doesn’t fit their body type, is out of date, isn’t in their color range, etc. Men, on the other hand, know not to color outside the lines and anything other than a suit is unacceptable, so don’t even try. It’s ridiculous that ‘professional’ men are expected to wear a fashion which evolved in a nasty climate like northern Europe, where wool and a jacket are arguable useful. Then throw on the necktie - a useless accoutrement that evolved from the Elizabethan laced color and cuffs.

As an extension to his experiment, he should try wearing different types of clothes after his year is over… how would a kilt be accepted, or high-cost jeans, or a tank, or even an aloha shirt… maybe some sandals considering how hot Australia can be. He’d probably be fired after the first week.

  4. I completely agree, men can barely think straight if a woman exposes her ankles, much less her upper chest. If women want to be taken seriously, they should dress more like… a man. There’s a song in that I think.

  5. No…YOU won’t take her seriously. That doesn’t mutually include us all. And, although I am no fan of FOX the woman on the program don’t dress in an unacceptable manner. That’s your perception …and it’s just that type of perception that was being demonstrated by this man.
