Rep. Steve King (R-IA) on Sunday tweeted at President Donald Trump that embattled White House chief strategist Steve Bannon is the “lynchpin” to his support base.

“Conservatives are an endangered species in your White House,” King posted.

King, who said that no “other subgroup of people” has contributed as much to civilization as white people and most recently claimed that “civilization” will not be restored with “somebody else’s babies,” tweeted in support of Bannon amid reports that knives are out for the former Breitbart News chair. (For his part, critics have described Bannon as a “white supremacist type” who Martin Luther King Jr. would be “disappointed” to see in the White House.)

Bannon, who was suddenly removed from the National Security Council’s Principals Committee last week, considered leaving the White House entirely due to disagreements with Jared Kushner, according to a report by Politico.

Axios reported on Thursday that Bannon nevertheless told associates he loves “a gunfight” and such stories are “100 percent nonsense.”

GOP Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (FL) on Friday predicted that Bannon’s days in the Trump administration “are numbered” and said his departure “would be welcome news for the nation.”
