Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL) on Friday said that President Donald Trump should eject Chief Strategist Steve Bannon from his administration.
During an interview on the “Fernand Amandi Show” on Miami radio station WIOD, the host noted reports suggesting Bannon may be ousted from the Trump administration entirely after he was suddenly removed from the National Security Council’s Principal’s Committee earlier this week.
“I think it would be welcome news for the nation,” Ros-Lehtinen replied. “His views are not in line with our country. We are an inclusive country that welcomes different points of views. His ties to certain groups is very worrisome.”
Before signing on to Trump’s presidential campaign, Bannon was the executive chairman for Breitbart News, the far-right news outlet that has given a voice to the white nationalist “alt-right” movement. Bannon has himself touted the site as a “platform for the alt-right,” and the site once called the Weekly Standard’s Bill Kristol a “renegade Jew.”
Ros-Lehtinen predicted that Bannon is on his way out of the White House and that there will likely be a “a shakeup in the White House in the coming months.”
“I think his days are numbered in that administration. And I think profound changes will be coming,” she said.
