“The Late Show” host Stephen Colbert opened Monday night’s episode by mocking retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson’s awkward entrance at Saturday’s Republican presidential debate.

Carson, who was called to the stage second, caused a traffic jam when he continued to hang out backstage instead of walk to the podium. He said Sunday that he didn’t hear his name being called by the moderators.

Colbert’s musical director and his house band entered while the host admired his theater’s curtains—much to the chagrin of his announcer and stage manager.

“Stephen Colbert! All he has to do is point his face at the stage and walk forward,” the announcer said.
