White House press secretary Sean Spicer opened a press briefing Friday afternoon sporting an upside-down flag lapel pin, typically a sign of distress, which was quickly noted by reporters in the room.
“I was going to say, your pin’s upside down,” Fox News’ John Roberts told Spicer when he began taking questions.
“John Roberts always helping me with the fashion tips,” Spicer replied.
“A distress call, Sean?” one reporter said.
“I appreciate that,” he said.
“’House of Cards’ promo?” another offered.
“No, there’s no promo,” Spicer clarified.
The Navy notes on its website that “an upside-down flag is considered a distress signal.” Protest movements, including recently the anti-pipeline camp at Standing Rock, have used the upside down flag as a banner.

Sadr City Sean then spent the remainder of the press conference repeatedly blinking “torture” in Morse code.
Ah, so we both noticed that. LOL
Next week he’ll probably show up with flags in hopes the reporters can read semaphore.
