House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) on Monday told reporters for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that he would do “whatever” presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump asks him to do in regard to the Republican National Convention, including stepping down as the convention chair.
Here’s the account the reporters provided on Twitter:
If Trump asks him to step down as convention chair, @SpeakerRyan says: “He’s the nominee. I’ll do whatever he wants” in respect to the RNC.

Ryan also told the journalists that it had been months since he and Trump had spoken to each other.
Trump said Sunday on NBC News’ “Meet the Press” that he was “blindsided” by Ryan saying that he couldn’t yet support Trump as the party’s nominee, but sidestepped saying whether Ryan should step down as the convention chair.
“I don’t want to mention now. I’ll see after. I will give you a very solid answer, if that happens, about one minute after that happens,” Trump said. “Okay? But there’s no reason to give it right now.”
