Presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump said in an interview aired Sunday that he was “blindsided” by House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) saying he couldn’t yet support the businessman.

Ryan said last week after Trump swept in the Indiana primary that he was “just not ready” to support him. Trump quickly shot back and released a statement of his own that said he was “not ready” to support Ryan’s agenda.

“I like Paul Ryan. I think he’s a very good guy. He called me three weeks ago, and he was so supportive. It was amazing,” Trump said on NBC News’ “Meet the Press.” “And I never thought a thing like this. I got blindsided by this.”

NBC Host Chuck Todd suggested to Trump that the real estate mogul was “stunned” by Ryan’s words.

“No, I would say stunned is a little bit— it’s politics. I’m never stunned by anything that happens in politics,” Trump said. “Yeah, I was blindsided a little bit, because he spoke to me three weeks ago, and it was a very nice call, a very encouraging call.”

Trump continued and said that he wasn’t sure what Ryan was doing with “this number,” but that it was “OK.”
