House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) on Thursday sidestepped directly responding to his predecessor’s claim that Republican presidential candidate Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) was “Lucifer in the flesh.”
Former House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) said Wednesday during a talk at Stanford University that he got along with most people, but not Cruz. Boehner additionally called Cruz “a miserable son of a bitch.”
Ryan said he has a “much better relationship than that with Sen. Cruz” when asked to his respond to Boehner’s comments at his weekly press conference.
“Look, my job is to help unify our party, is to take all pieces of the conservative movement in the Republican Party and help stitch them together, especially after a primary,” Ryan said. “I have a very good relationship with both of these men and I’m going to keep it that way.”
