During a Monday radio interview, Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI), who is up for re-election in 2016, said that he will “absolutely” support whoever Republican primary voters select as the Republican presidential nominee.
“I have no problem supporting whoever the Republican primary voters select as our nominee,” Johnson said on WTMJ’s “Wisconsin’s Afternoon News.”
The senator explained that he has to consider the alternative to the Republican nominee, which he assumed will be Hillary Clinton.
“Every election’s a comparison between one candidate and the other,” he said.
He said that Clinton’s “dereliction of duty in Benghazi” and “reckless” use of personal email would make her “disqualified for the position.”
Johnson did not change his answer when asked to respond to Republicans who have said they could never support Donald Trump’s candidacy.
“I just remind anybody that, again, it’s going to be a comparison. Would they rather have Hillary Clinton sitting in the Oval Office? I would choose not to do that,” he said.
The senator also responded to previous comments he has made about Trump during a Tuesday morning interview on Wisconsin radio station WTAQ. He was asked about an ad from the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee that highlights Johnson noting he would support the eventual Republican nominee. The ad also shows him saying that Trump is “tapping into the public’s anger, and I certainly share that.”
“Well, I’m responsible for my own conduct, my own actions, my own words,” Johnson said. “We’re part of a party system. It’s a team effort, and the Republican primary voters will decide who our nominee is. And what else would be expected of candidates running for office to say other than, ‘We’re going to support that eventual nominee.'”
Johnson added that he will be “honest when I don’t agree with anybody.”
The senator in February condemned former Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke after he endorsed Trump, and he said that he is “praying that our nominee is a person of integrity, intelligence, ideas, and courage.”
Is that all ya got Ronnie? No wonder Feingold is kicking your a**!
Yes, Senator, we’d rather have Clinton as President. Much, much rather. Any day of the week and twice on Sunday. Yes indeedy.
(And we’d also much rather go back to having Russ back in the Senate, and see you looking for a new job. Which looks likely!)
Just the kind of stellar analysis this guy is known for.
Still trying that so long after the train has left the station ? ?? —
Nuff said ----
I hope you’ve got someone waiting in the wings?
