The Iowa chairman for Republican presidential candidate and former Texas Gov. Rick told the Associated Press on Monday that he’s left his job, days after reports surfaced that the GOP hopeful had stopped paying some campaign staffers.

Reports earlier this month stated that Perry would stop paying staffers in Iowa, Texas, New Hampshire, and South Carolina amid financial woes.

Perry’s Iowa campaign chair, Sam Clovis, said he was stepping down because of the transitioning campaign and uncertainty of pay, according to the Associated Press.
