Rep. Greg Walden (R-OR), the chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee, is now facing a primary challenge from Klamath County Commissioner Dennis Linthicum.

Linthicum announced his primary challenge Wednesday, according to The Oregonian. In an interview with the Oregon newspaper Linthicum said Walden has made a career out of being a politician.

He also said that Tea Party Republicans are “clearly in my camp.”

Walden released a statement in response to Linthicum’s announcement:

“I work hard every day to get results for Oregonians, and I look forward to earning their trust again next year,” Walden said. “I remain focused on reducing the size and cost of government and growing Oregon’s economy to create jobs in the woods, on our farms, and in the high tech sector.”

Walden’s seat has been the target of conservative outside groups. The Club for Growth put Walden’s seat on its “Primary My Congressman” list.
