Arson investigators were at the scene of a fire at Islamic center in Houston, Texas that burned down early Friday, according to local station KHOU.

Smoke billowed from the Quba Islamic Institute early in the morning as the Houston Fire Department responded to an alarm at about 5:30 a.m CST, the station reported.

The fire was under control about an hour later, but the building, identified as a family center that was set to open soon, was a “complete loss,” according to KHOU.

The station reported that investigators had yet to determine the cause of the fire.

This is-- or is very near to Rep Steve Stockman’s (R-Lunatic) district.
While many superficially equate Texas-- to redneck?

Houston is a far more cosmopolitan place than the more rural outlying areas.
This area while in Houston proper-- is on the side of town where the genesis of the movie Urban Cowboy came into being.

Pasadena, City of South Houston, Friendswood, Deer Park, Galena Park-- all and forever a deeply blue-collar and industrial/refinery base and locale.

Been a rarity in my nearly 4 decades in Houston-- for there to be heightened racial or religious tensions that erupt into actions such as this. Nothing on ‘local radar’ gives any indications either.
