Say what you want about Rep. Francis Underwood, but the fictional congressman just gets results.

President Obama seems to think so, anyway. During a meeting Tuesday with technology executives to discuss the problems facing HealthCare.gov, Obama cracked a joke to a Netflix representative about the Internet streaming company’s hit series.

“I’m just wondering if you brought advance copies of House of Cards?” Obama asked, according to a pool report.

Then, in a pair of observations worthy of a Maureen Dowd column, Obama commented on both the Washington, D.C. depicted in the series and Underwood, the cutthroat congressman protrayed by Kevin Spacey.

“I wish things were that ruthlessly efficient,” Obama said of the show, adding that Spacey’s character gets “a lot of stuff done.”

The “stuff” Underwood took care of in season one included the murder of a House colleague, a detail that was joked about earlier this year by House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (R-CA).

“He does what he believes in; he does what he likes,” McCarthy said of Underwood. “He portrays this person with all the wrong things you hear about Washington. He literally murders one member. If I could murder one member, I’d never have to worry about another vote.”
