The New York Daily News pronounced the Republican Party dead on its front page Wednesday, after Donald Trump swept the Indiana primary the night before to become the GOP’s presumptive nominee.

The front page showed an elephant lying in a casket and read “Republican Party 1854 – 2016.” Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) dropped out of the 2016 race on Tuesday after Trump’s win in Indiana.

The tabloid has taken liberties with its Trump coverage before. The Daily News called Trump a “dead clown walking” after a second-place finish in the Iowa caucuses; lampooned New Hampshire voters when Trump won the primary there, dubbing it the “dawn of the brain dead;” and depicted Trump beheading the Statue of Liberty.

  1. Dead, but still needs to be buried!

  2. can they make the cartoon with a stake thru it’s heart? altho that’s probably as hard to find as it’s brain these days…

  3. I think the Rumors of the death of the GOP have been greatly exaggerated…just as the impossibility of the nomination of Trump was greatly exaggerated for the past year. How can the party be dead? As I read in a comment on another site…The GOP is finally offering a candidate that it’s base can believe in; racist, vile, aggressive, misinformed, angry, violent, and stupid. I see this as more energizing for them than a death-blow…nobody has to play the dog-whistle game anymore. Those of us who are rational need to get out the damn vote instead of having a party/wake over someone who’s not even close to dead.

  4. This smugness has to stop…Trump must be attacked daily…Bernie needs to attack him…Trump is
    dangerous and not underestimated…

  5. Dead my ass. The same thing was being said in 1964 after Goldwater got the nomination and in 1974 after the Watergate scandal.
