The front page of the New York Daily News invoked an anti-Nazi speech in a decidedly anti-Donald Trump cartoon on Wednesday.
The cover borrows language from the poem “First They Came” by Martin Niemöller, a Protestant pastor who was an outspoken opponent of Adolf Hitler.
The Daily News cover reads, “When Trump came for the Mexicans, I did not speak out — as I was not a Mexican. When he came for the Muslims, I did not speak out — as I was not a Muslim. Then he came for me…”
Here’s the cover:
The accompanying column was written by Max Paul Friedman, a history professor at American University specializing in 20th-century U.S. foreign relations.
This cover one-ups the Tuesday front-page of the Philadelphia Daily News, which depicted Trump as Adolf Hitler.
I realize it’s a simple drawing, but his fingers are waaaaaaaay too long.
Kudos and applause to the Daily News! Great cover.
I’m just going to go full Godwin on the whole matter. It has rarely been more appropriate.
Trump doesn’t believe 14th Amend. people are ‘real Americans.’
Trump believes in mass deportations.
Trump proposes tracking down undesirables through their employers.
…and on and on.
Hmmm…wonder what his ‘final solution’ would be when he realizes the inefficiency and cost of mass deportations??
Trump will have this cover framed and prominently displayed in his executive offices.
Until Trump starts producing crappy cityscape watercolors we’re all safe.
Although too humble to claim it, his “The Donald ‘Self Portrait’: I Am Revealed” captured his very soul:
