Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) is refusing to offer details on whether he owns a gun, hunts or regularly goes shooting for recreation, according to a columnist for the Louisville Courier-Journal.

Columnist Joe Gerth writes that McConnell’s reelection campaign has refused to say “if McConnell hunts, shoots targets or even owns a gun.” Gerth also noted that McConnell’s campaign ignored a reporter who in 2013 asked if the top Senate Republican would accept a challenge by Democratic opponent Alison Lundergan Grimes (KY) to go to a shooting range.

Guns have recently been a topic in relation to McConnell. During the Conservative Political Action Conference McConnell handed Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK) a rifle on stage. Shortly after that Grimes on Thursday tweeted that “that’s not the way to hold a gun. KY women do it better.” McConnell’s primary challenger, Matt Bevin, also criticized him for the rifle moment.

TPM has reached out to McConnell’s campaign and will update with a response.
