After dinner with his colleagues on Tuesday night, a Pennsylvania lawmaker wound up exchanging gunfire with a robber near the state Capitol, according to Reuters.

The Pennsylvania House Democratic Caucus released a statement describing the shootout and saying that Rep. Marty Flynn (D) and Rep. Ryan Bizzarro (D) had been the victims of a robbery attempt at about 11 p.m., the news outlet reported.

The would-be mugger pulled a gun and ordered the two men to hand over their wallets, according to Reuters.

The robber fired a shot, and Flynn fired back, according to the caucus statement cited by Reuters.

The news outlet said police eventually arrested three teenagers near shootout and a fourth at a home.

Flynn is a former prison guard trained in mixed martial arts, Reuters reported.
