The Loyal White Knights of the KKK are using North Carolina’s transgender bathroom bill to recruit new members, according to a report from an ABC Affiliate in Roxboro, N.C.

On Thursday, the news station reported the KKK chapter delivered fliers and applications to individuals in the community using House Bill 2 as a recruiting measure.

“These freaks are jeopardizing the safety of bathrooms all across the nation for our women and children. This needs to stop,” the flier posted on ABC’s website said. “If you are confused and don’t know what sex you are today use a tree out in the backyard.”

The local KKK chapter told the news outlet that they aren’t using any different tactic than other advocacy groups out there.

“People have nothing to be scared of,” Wayne Felker, a “great titan” of the Loyal White Knights in Roxboro, told ABC. “We are doing the same thing the NAACP and Black Panthers and everybody else is doing. We’re standing up for our race and we have that right.”

The local police station announced on Facebook Wednesday that it was conducting an investigation into the pamphleting, and Mayor Merilyn Newell said in a statement to ABC that the city “will not tolerate any actions against citizens by groups who have a mission of racial, sexual, religious or any other kind of intimidation.”
