President Barack Obama’s request for billions of dollars to deal with tens of thousands of migrant children streaming across the border set off Democrats and Republicans. House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) says he hasn’t spoken to Ted Cruz since the Republican senator from Texas got elected in November 2012.

“I’ve not talked to him since he’s been elected,” Boehner told the Cincinnati Enquirer in an interview.

The article was published on the one year anniversary of the government shutdown, sparked by a confrontation over Obamacare which Cruz played a key role pushing Boehner into. Cruz, who wields influence among House conservatives, has been an obstacle for Boehner on multiple occasions.
