The Interal Revenue Service official at center of the agency’s political targeting scandal is retiring, the Associated Press reported Monday.
Lois Lerner was in charge of the tax-exempt status division that has been scrutinized by Congress for improperly singling out both liberal and conservative groups for additonal reviews in the run up to the 2012 election. Following extensive Congressional hearings, she was placed on paid leave in May.
Lerner revealed the misconduct by answering a planted question at an American Bar Association conference in May.
