GOP presidential candidate Mike Huckabee told the crowd gathered at Tuesday’s “ImWithKim Liberty Rally” that he’d be “willing” to go to jail in place of Kim Davis.
Huckabee’s vow came after the Kentucky county clerk was released from jail on Tuesday afternoon. Federal judge David Bunning ordered Davis’ release on the condition that she “not interfere in any way” with the efforts of legally eligible couples to marry.
The GOP candidate met with Davis at the Carter County Detention Center on Tuesday and escorted her out. In a statement released later, Huckabee insisted that Davis was “locked-up for being a Christian.”
“Kim Davis sitting behind bars in an orange jumpsuit for six days leaves no doubt about the criminalization of Christianity in America,” Huckabee said.
