Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee (R) is perfectly happy with the speech he gave in February cracking jokes about transgender people, whether Caitlyn Jenner is in the news or not.

“I take nothing back from that speech,” he told Iowa rightwing radio host Steave Deace on Friday.

“I’m kind of glad it’s posted because people — if they watch the whole clip — what they’re going to see is that I’m giving a common sense answer to the insanity that’s going on out there,” he added.

The former governor gave the speech in February at the 2015 National Religious Broadcasters Convention in Nashville, Tennessee, months before the former Olympian Jenner announced she had transitioned.

“Now I wish that someone told me that when I was in high school that I could have felt like a woman when it came time to take showers in PE,” Huckabee said to the crowd.

On Friday, he did not qualify those remarks now that Jenner is in the spotlight.

“Everybody wants to be politically correct, everybody wants to be loved by the media and loved by the left and loved by the elitists,” he said. “But, you know, I know I’m not going to be, so let’s just get it over with.”
