Republican presidential candidate and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee is not above using the full reach of the executive branch to prevent women from getting abortions, according to multiple statements at campaign stops in Iowa.
Huckabee left the door open when asked whether he would use federal troops or the FBI to stop abortions if elected, the Huffington Post reported on Friday.
“I will not pretend there is nothing we can do to stop this,” he said at Pizza Ranch in Jefferson, Iowa, citing the 14th Amendment, which guarantees equal protection to all citizens.
In Rockwell City, Iowa, Huckabee affirmed his position.
“All American citizens should be protected,” he said.
To put it lightly, Huckabee has been a vocal opponent of Roe v. Wade, the decision that legalized abortion in 1973.
I clicked. You win again. Shame on you TPM!
Yes, that was misleading. In the future let’s all just give zero huckabees.
Mullah Huckabee of the American Taliban.
But remember - it is President Obama who has been overstepping constitutional bounds and abusing the rule of law with all of his extremist executive power stuff. Right!
[I guess we shouldn’t expect consistency from these guys, but … this is getting scary. There are literally no boundaries - of law, prudence, or procedure - that these people will respect where it comes to exercising their political will.]
Reminds me of that classic Onion point/counterpoint article, with a woman saying “U.S. out of my underwear!” and an Army general explaining the reasons we must immediately deploy troops to her underwear.
