Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said Monday that she hasn’t driven a car since 1996, the year her husband Bill Clinton was elected to a second term as president.
“I have to confess that one of the regrets I have about my public life is that I can’t drive anymore. My husband thinks that’s a blessing, but he’s the one who should talk,” Clinton joked at the National Auto Dealers Association convention in New Orleans. “Last time I actually drove a car myself was 1996, and I remember it very well. Unfortunately so does the Secret Service, which is why I haven’t driven since then.”
Clinton also reflected on her time at the head of the State Department in her remarks, singling out the 2012 attacks on the American diplomatic mission in Benghazi, Libya as her biggest regret. On the other hand, she said her proudest moment as secretary of state was recommending that Navy SEALs carry out the raid that resulted in the death after Osama bin Laden.
Hillary Clinton: Biggest regret as sec. of state is what happened in Benghazi. We sent civilians to “a lot of dangerous places.” #NADA2014
