Fox News host Gretchen Carlson on Wednesday doubled down on her support for a ban on assault weapons after receiving a flood of insults responding to her remarks about the issue on Tuesday.
“Yesterday I startled many and pleased tons of others by saying I believe the assault weapons in this county, the ban should be reinstated,” she said on her Fox News show.
Carlson shared a few of the insults she received on social media calling her “stupid” and “anti American.”
“And of course, there were a lot worse ones with tons of F-bombs and worse than that even,” she said.
“That kind of intolerance is no doubt why politicians sometimes don’t say what they really think,” Carlson added.
She then noted that she’s encouraged by a handful of Republicans willing to keep people on the terror watch list from buying firearms.
“Maybe it’s time for more of us to start getting real and try to come together to actually get things done,” the Fox host said.

wow… a 5W bulb gets turned up to 7.5W by actually advocating a reasonable position and then is SHOCKED because she isn’t met with universal admiration and respect…
stay tuned… will Billo and Hammity get in line or blast her for caving to the gun control losers…
Ms. Carlson, if you sincerely mean that, then I sincerely have your back. I’m a Progressive, pro-choice gay male. There are ways to move our nation forward. Thank you.
Gretchen, meet the Fox audience… That’s how they “debate”…
And I bet every one of the nasty insults came from her (former) true admirers.
Growing a spine hurts.
