Prominent conservative talk radio host Erick Erickson said Tuesday night he will de-register as a member of the Republican Party if Donald Trump secures the presidential nomination.
“If Trump is the Republican Party nominee, I won’t be a Republican,” Erickson, who founded RedState, told the Daily Beast. “I’m not down with white supremacists.”
On his blog The Resurgent, Erickson wrote Wednesday the GOP must “draw a line” with Trump, as the party did by refusing to support former KKK leader David Duke’s run for U.S. Senate in 1990.
“If Republicans in 2016 are unwilling to draw a line and refuse to support Trump with what we know about him, I do not find it plausible that the GOP would reject another David Duke should he ever advance to Trump’s position,” he wrote.
Erickson has for months rallied the #NeverTrump movement, calling for a third party candidate to mount a challenge to the billionaire and Democrat Hillary Clinton.
