Donald Trump announced Thursday he won’t skip CNN’s Republican presidential debate after all.
The presidential contender told the Washington Post “When you’re leading in the polls, I think it’s too big of a risk to not do the debate.”
“I don’t want to take the chance of hurting my campaign. So I’ll do the debate,” Trump said according to the Post.
Trump said that while he was reluctant, he was not about to let fellow Republican candidates attack him for not showing up.
“Every single person doing the debate would knock the hell out of me and say I’m afraid to be there,” Trump told the Washington Post. “The one thing I’m not in life is a chicken.”
Trump had suggested he might just not to show up for the Dec. 15 debate unless CNN handed him $5 million. Trump argued he’d helped with the station’s ratings, but that they had covered him unfairly.
CNN to Trump: “What makes you think, you’re still invited?”*
