Rep. Dan Maffei’s (D-NY) second campaign ad of his re-election campaign features three children at a lemonade stand to stake his position on equal pay between men and women.
The ad features three children at a lemonade stand. The child standing at the center, wearing a suit, first turns to the other boy and gives him ten dollars. Then he turns to the girl and gives her eight dollars.
“Sally, since you did the same work, here’s eight dollars for you,” the boy said.
“What?!” the girl responds.
“You don’t have to be a grownup to know, that isn’t fair,” Maffei then said. “We’ve got to make sure women get equal pay for equal work and that they aren’t charged more for their health care.”
Democrats have made gender equality and workplace issues a central issue of the 2014 campaign cycle. In June, Republicans unanimously filibustered Democratic legislation that was meant to help close the gender pay gap in the workplace.
