FILE - In this June 27, 2013 file photo is seen in New York. A rift over national security is developing in the early stages of the Republican Party's next presidential campaign, putting libertarians at odds with hawks who cite the 2001 terrorist attacks. Christie is warning that a growing libertarian streak among both parties is dangerous. He points to the widows and orphans of his home state who were affected by the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky. tweeted Friday that he worries about the dangers of losing freedom, while Christie worries about the dangers of freedom. For Republicans, the national security debate offers a window into a changing party that re-elected President George W. Bush nearly a decade ago after he took tough steps to fight terrorism. By chance, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) was spared from being the butt of a great cosmic joke Thursday at the dedication ceremony for the Sept. 11 museum.

Broadway star Idina Menzel was originally slated to follow Christie’s remarks with her rendition of “Bridge Over Troubled Water,” according to the Associated Press. But Menzel was replaced in the program because she was sick and unable to perform, according to a spokesman for the museum.

Instead, fellow Broadway singer LaChanze performed “Amazing Grace.” The switch-up had nothing to do with Christie or with song choice, the spokesman told the AP.

The bridge scandal that still plagues Christie’s administration has been lampooned everywhere from late-night TV to the New Yorker.
