A 5-year-old boy accidentally shot and killed himself with a gun he found inside his Riverside County, Calif. home on Tuesday, police told NBC Los Angeles.
A neighbor called 911 to report the incident, and police pronounced the boy dead when they arrived at the scene, according to NBC.
A Riverside County sheriff’s official said the shooting appeared to be accidental. Police investigated the incident, but did not report whether negligence was involved the the boy’s death.
