Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell (R) declined to say Thursday whether he was aware that a $6,500 Rolex watch was a gift from a major political donor.
“I’m not going to comment any further on that,” McDonnell said, according to the Richmond Times-Dispatch.
Jonnie R. Williams Sr., the CEO of dietary supplement maker Star Scientific, reportedly purchased the watch in 2011 at the behest of Virginia First Lady Maureen McDonnell, who in turn gave the timepiece to her husband. The Republican governor’s relationship with Williams has been the subject of a federal investigation.
