PHOTO: Former Gov. Bob McDonnell Smiles With Bottle Of Anatabloc

Former Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell shown holding a bottle of the dietary supplement Anatabloc as part of the evidence unveiled during his corruption trial.

Former Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell (R) was shown smiling and holding a bottle of the dietary supplement Anatabloc in a photo revealed as evidence Friday in the 10th day of the federal corruption trial for the former governor and his wife.

The photo was originally posted to a Facebook page for Anatabloc, according to the Washington Post, which published the photo Friday as part of its ongoing coverage of the case. The newspaper reported that the former governor’s aides said McDonnell did not give the company permission to do at the time.

Anatabloc is a dietary supplement sold by Star Scientific Inc., the company whose former CEO is at the center of the corruption case for allegedly showering McDonnell and his wife with gifts and money while the former governor was in office.

I am assuming the purpose of this photo is to establish that he was not ignorant of the machinations of his goofy, unbalanced, conniving (or whatever the adjective of the day is) wife.

  4. Would you buy a used car from this guy?? If he ain’t selling, he sure is trying.

  5. It seems a good time is being had by many witnesses at the trial. The stuff is bogus; little better than a placebo.

Dr. Bill Hazel, Virginia’s current and former health secretary, administered a healthy dose of skepticism to the jury Thursday on day nine of the McDonnells’ federal corruption trial.

“To say I was skeptical” about Jonnie Williams Sr.'s claims for Anatabloc “would have been an understatement,” Hazel testified.

The Cabinet officer cracked that he never declared Williams’ free samples of Anatabloc on his disclosure form because “I never thought they had any value.”

Hazel was just the latest in a steady parade of witnesses prosecutors have plucked from the upper and lower tiers of former Gov. Bob McDonnell’s administration. Prosecutors are trying to prove the first couple conspired to sell the governor’s office to help Williams and Star Scientific in exchange for luxury gifts, golf outings, trips and $120,000 in loans.

Hazel, wisecracking and often flippant on the witness stand, made it clear that he wanted little to do with Williams or his product.
