VA GOPer Isn’t Sorry For His Comments About Muslims But Resigns Anyway

The Virginia GOP official who questioned on social media whether Muslims contributed anything to America resigned his position Wednesday night without apologizing for the intolerant comment.

In a Tuesday Facebook post, state Republican Party Treasurer BobFitzsimmonds called President Barack Obama’s Ramadan statement, which thanked Muslims for their contributions to the nation, “nonsense.” He then went on to criticize other religions.

“It seems that no matter how careful I might be, I will periodically give occasion for others to portray the party in a bad light, so long as I am a party official,” Fitzsimmonds wrote in a letter to the state GOP’s central committee, as quoted by The Washington Post. “After discussion with several party leaders it seems clear that I will either need to stop posting on social media or step down from my party office.”

Fitzsimmonds was not apologetic in the letter, according to the Post. He said he would resign as soon as his position is filled, which the Post points out will likely be after a state party meeting on Aug. 16.

Facebook truly is Fitzsimmonds’ weakness. The state GOP official also took heat in February for a post that referred to a female congressional candidate with a slang term for genitalia. He later apologized for that comment.

LOL, so he chose to step down from office rather than keep his shitty religion-baiting opinions off Facebook.

    WaronWhites.

  2. This is silly. A grown man admits that he can’t help posting vile offensive comments on facebook. He needs professional help.

    You forgot the #.

Anyway, important part is that he gets to keep posting +1s on Palin’s insightful posts!

  4. Oh, the stupidity. Can someone please tell him that nearly 40 percent of African slaves were Muslims. And everybody knows that the slave economy is the foundation of American capitalism. I bet some of those Muslim slaves wound up at Monticello.

Though my professional life orbits all things web-- social media interests me not one whit.
Though in cases like this bigot’s?
Exposing yet another intolerant RWNJ for the fool that he is–
and seeing his influence removed from the public sphere?

    I’ll give Facebook a ‘Like’.
