Republican presidential candidate Dr. Ben Carson said Wednesday that he thought Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton might not be able to run for President because she could be in jail.

Carson was asked on a Fox News radio program if he thought Vice President Joe Biden (before he decided not to run) or Clinton would be the Democratic nominee.

“Hillary could well be in jail, and it’s hard to run from there,” Carson replied.

Carson said the Clinton’s personal email server use or her handling of the Benghazi attack could lead to jail time. Clinton testified Thursday to a House committee about Benghazi.

But Carson walked back those comments a few moments later.

“I think she may not be actually in jail, but I think the controversy swirling around that will have an extremely damaging effect,” Carson said.

“Do you want a nation that is of, for and by the people, with a government that is to pursue life liberty and the pursuit of happiness,” Carson continued. “Or do you want a nation where the government knows what’s best? I don’t think you’ll ever need a clear choice in this.”
