A police officer in Austin, Texas was recently caught on tape making sexist remarks about the Ray Rice domestic violence case to a radio reporter.

Joy Diaz, a reporter at Texas NPR affiliate KUT, reported on Thursday that she was recently approached at a police union building by veteran officer Andrew Petrowski.

According to audio captured by Diaz, Petrowski offered an unprompted take on the case of NFL running back Ray Rice, who knocked out his then-fianceé in an elevator in February.

“I don’t care who you are,” Petrowski said on the recording. “You think about the women’s movement today, [women say] ‘Oh, we want to go [into] combat,’ and then, ‘We want equal pay, and we want this.'”

“You want to go fight in combat and sit in a foxhole? You go right ahead. But a man can’t hit you in public here? Bullshit!” the officer continued.

“You act like a whore, you get treated like one!” he added on the tape.

Diaz said she recently played the audio for Austin’s police chief, who said the officer “has no business being a cop.”

In an update to her story, Diaz reported that Petrowski retired from the force on Friday.

It wasn’t the only recent case of Austin cops caught making offensive remarks. In November, a local attorney released video of two officers joking about rape as a woman passed by their car.

“Go ahead, call the cops, they can’t unrape you. They can’t unrape you,” one said to the other, to laughter.

The officers, identified as Mark Lyttle and Michael Castillo by KXAN, were reportedly suspended for several days after the department reviewed the video.

I’m having a difficult time understanding how the two situations are similar. If a female police officer goes to work, she understands that in the course of her job she may be assaulted or killed due to the duties of her position. So conversely that also means it should be totally fine for her husband to punch her in the face at a restaurant, because equality? Should women be allowed to beat their husbands if they’re combat veterans? I’m baffled. I sincerely hope he isn’t married, because he seems to be a little too sympathetic to Ray Rice.

  3. Why can’t that state full of idiots leave the union?

What should happen to you if you act like a murderous thug? Like Darren Wilson and Daniel Pantoleo?

It never ceases to amaze me, how rough and tough these guys act when it comes to others.

But one eensy weensy bit of criticism of them, or somebody wears a shirt with a message they don’t like.

And they cry like little babies.
