A 3-year-old girl was fatally shot by a bullet from her father’s handgun at Yellowstone National Park over the weekend, making her the first child to die from gun fire in the park in 75 years, Reuters reported Monday.

Authorities declined to say whether the shooting was an accident and the incident is still under investigation.

The child’s death comes three years after a ban on the possession of firearms at national parks was lifted, according to Retuers.
