TPM is hiring a Newswriter to work in our New York City office. This is an entry level, junior editorial position writing primarily for TPM’s LiveWire.
TPMLivewire is the tip of the TPM breaking news spear, covering the news in real time using a combination of aggregation and original reporting to keep readers up to speed on the latest developments in TPM’s coverage areas.
The Newswriter will be constantly monitoring a wide array of incoming news channels — including TV, online, social media — in search of significant developments in our coverage areas and early emerging stories of national significance. The stories at Livewire are newsworthy, zany, provocative — and preferably a combination of all three.
Candidates must be deeply conversant with the news world, be ready to work at the fast-paced metabolism of a new media news organization. A solid grasp of contemporary U.S. politics, a real familiarity with TPM, and solid news judgment are each a must.

The Social Media Editor will a) lead our social media efforts; b) interact with readers in various formats including our members’ forum, newsletters, email and more; c) pitch in on writing for TPM’s Livewire. TPMLivewire is the tip of the TPM breaking news spear, covering the news in real time using a combination of aggregation and original reporting to keep readers up to speed on the latest developments in TPM’s coverage areas.
The Social Media Editor will be our primary voice finding new readers for unique TPM content and deepening our relationship with our core readership.
Candidates must be deeply conversant with the news world, be ready to work at the fast-paced metabolism of a new media news organization. A solid grasp of contemporary U.S. politics, a real familiarity with TPM, and solid news judgment are each a must. The job is fast paced and sometimes frenetic, especially when news breaks. Multitasking should be your default style. The perfect candidate will be able to translate a love of politics into a social media message that fits TPM’s voice.
In addition to interacting with TPM’s loyal and vociferous readers, the Social Media Editor will be charged with working with TPM’s editorial staff to keep it informed of new developments, strategies and best practices in social media.
Applicants should have a minimum of one year’s relevant journalism experience or substantial experience in college journalism.
