Since he had been treated for being suicidal before becoming a pilot, I’d say that was the motive. And being a vindictive jerk, he decided to take a lot of people with him. Dumped by a lady, so now the whole world hates him, etc.
There needs to a link between people getting such treatment and then trying to get hazardous jobs. Doc-Patient confidentiality has limits, the public needs to be protected too. Commercial pilots, cops, gun owners, these types should lose privileges when they are diagnosed with this type of mental illness.
The press should not even try to determine or publicize the “motives” of mass murderers, it’s publicity for their cause that motivates them.
